It keeps my 85 lb GSD out of the front, and keeps him from tearing up the console and front arm rests, yet I can still see and pet him. Granted, it is not 100% unpassable and if he wants to get in the front, he will find a way. He is a GSD.

Love my dog but her climbing on the console while I was driving was very unsafe. I tried lots of things to keep her in the back seat. I know I should have trained her when she was younger but...Anyway this barrier did the trick of keeping her safely in the backseat so I can concentrate on driving. Easy to install and with a handy pocket for a leash. We are on the road again!

Thank you for your question. The K&H Travel Barrier may not work for your specific use. The straps that wrap around the headrest can stretch, however, the barrier itself cannot. This may leave a gap on either side of the barrier if the seats are not even.

Can this product be used to separate parts of the backseat?

I don't think this would work as a divider because the 4 corners need to be attached to something. In your case the top would need to be attached to the roof of the car and there's most likely nothing to attach it to. You might want to check into the metal barriers.
