Tried and trusted and recommended

Our akbash breeder coincidentally recommended the large breed puppy lamb and rice which was already our choice for our Pyrenees. She has since grown into the adult large breed lamb and rice. The food is tried and trusted and preferred by our giant puppies.

Great food, but 2 possible improvements

Pyrenees Mix Mamma

I have a 7yr old Pyrenees Anatolian Mix who is my service dog and she loves this food. I do wish that it did not have any chicken ingredients since she tends to be sensitive to poultry, but quite honestly other brands that are chicken-free are too expensive to feed given her size (94lb) and her allergic itch is not very prominent on this food (just occasional when she hits her chicken intake limit). I also wish that there was an option to purchase a smaller bag of food as the 40lb bag can be hard to handle when you have medical issues that cause physical limitations/disabilities.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great food for dogs with digestive sensitivity

I started using Diamond Naturals lamb and rice for large dogs when my livestock guardian dog was about 11 months old. She has trouble with corn based dog food as I found out when I first got her at 6 weeks old and my veterinarian insisted I feed her another brand. I switched her to the puppy equivalent of the adult version and she did so much better I have only fed her this since. She is 6 years old now and still very active, no signs of arthritis, no stomach and digestive issues, and not overweight. I have recommended Diamond Naturals to everyone I know.

The only food that doesn’t give my giant breed allergies

MastiffMomma

I have a 175lb South African Boerboel with multiple food allergies. This is the only food I have found that doesn’t make him itch, and I’ve tried Royal Canine, Science Diet, Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Loyall etc. Do not use the feeding instructions on the bag. For example, according to the bag, my dog should get over 8c of food per day. He’s on 5c and I may cut him back half a cup. Giant breeds need to be lean and fit, and he’s a bit tubbier than I like.

I love this food for my 96 lb retriever. He has a chicken protein allergy, so this is the best! The only thing wrong is that it only comes in 40-pound bags. Please make it available in smaller bags. I can't lift it!

Diamond Pet Foods
Hello there! We are happy to hear that your retriever is loving our Diamond Naturals Large Breed Adult Dog Lamb Meal & Rice Formula. We appreciate this suggestion of making smaller bag sizes of the formula! While we're not planning to change our bag sizes, we will pass this along to our team.

Excellent food for my dog

I adopted my dog a year ago. He was under weight from the food the previous owners had fed him. (Grain free). He wasn't getting what he needed out of the dog food. So with trial and error, I came across the Diamond Naturals and he is at a normal weight now, very healthy. And his coat is so shiny. Thank you.

I have been feeding my fur babies Diamond feed for years and have never been anything but satisfied with the quality of the food. I am a large breed owner, so big dogs mean more food so price is imported to me and Diamond offers me a quality feed at a fair price.

Does this dog food company have a board certified nutritionist on staff to develop the recipes according to the guidelines of the AAFCO for a complete and balanced diet?

  1. Hello – Our foods are developed using our proprietary formulation technology and a team of experts and scientists incorporating the latest research from many disciplines: veterinary medicine (DVMs), pet food nutrition (PhD), food microbiology (PhD), as well as food production and food science. We choose our ingredients very carefully as each ingredient aids in the formula's overall nutrition. Additionally, we can assure you that all our formulas and ingredients meet both Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards and are complete and balanced.

just wondering if anyone knows why the large breed in this flavor has one percentage more of protein vs. the adult dog for"most sizes" has less. This version also has 2% less fat than the adult dog one. I kind of assumed a larger breed dog would need more

  1. The protein and fat content percentages are in par on both for a large breed requirements at least for the Great Dane requirements or recommendations the main difference I noticed between this one and the regular version is that this one contains calcium and glucosamine chondroitin supplements

Do you find that this food is not as filling as the other brand with a diamond logo? Either my dogs really like it or it's not as filling. They act like they are hungry all day. I used to feed them 2 cups a day bb lamb but they are up to 3 cups with this.

  1. My dogs really like it. I do buy the extreme athlete and the calorie count is higher so I was able to drop down from 3.5 cups a day to 2 cups a day. My dogs are definitely loving it.
