Worth the money!

I was hesitant to pay the price, unsure of what to expect. I decided that even if I theoretically could go out and collect the rocks myself, my time has value and so I held my breath and made the purchase. I'm SO glad I did!! These are lovely river rocks!! Cohesive in type with just enough variance in size and color to bring visual interest to your scape. I highly recommend them...and am back today to purchase another box. Life is short. Buy the rocks.

Kodiak Coat in Red Plaid

What an exceptionally made coat! Not only waterproof but warm. There is a part of the strap that covers the belly. I got this for our new 10-yr. old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. She had little undercoat due to being kept inside and the coat came just in time. We then had heavy, cold rains and mix of snow. This coat fast to get on and kept her dry-especially her belly.

Great winter coat!

This Kodiak coat looks snazzy and fits well. Following the guidelines, I purchased an XL for my Goldendoodle who is 23 inches long and has a 31 inch girth. He is long and lean, so measurements mattered more than his weight. The coverage for his chest and belly, along with the adjustable velcro strap and back leg straps, make this a fantastic coat that stays in place and is easy to put on/take off. The Kodiak coat is not fleece lined (the Fairbanks is, but is thinner - we have that one, too!) but is very thick and keeps my boy quite warm. A card attached to the coat indicates that it is water repellent. This coat allows easy access for a front clip harness, and has a slit near the collar for a traditional back clip harness. Overall, the Kodiak is a great heavy-weight coat that provides excellent coverage, fits well, and looks great!

Sizing problems; otherwise lovely

The quality of this coat is excellent, though I received 2 "identical coats" in size M, and one had superior stitching and alignment of the plaid pattern than the other. I think this plaid print makes it particularly obvious when no care was taken to align the pattern in the various pieces of fabric. As noted by some other reviewers, there are sizing issues with Petrageous coats and with this style coat more than others. The girth measurements are accurate and can accommodate dogs that are wider or that have fuller coats than the maximum given dimensions indicates, because you don't have to cover all of the velco if you don't want to. The problem is with the length measurements. My English Cocker Spaniel (champion show dog, so she is true to type) has a back length of 16.5", a girth of 21" not including her show coat, and a weight of just under 24 lbs, By the size chart, she should be a size M. The coat is supposed to accommodate a back length varying from 14"-17" in size M, when the dog is measured from base of neck to top of tail. The actual length of the size M in the Kodiak, when measured from the base of the collar (where it attaches to the base of the coat, which falls on the dog where the back length begins), measured slightly under 14" in both M's that I received (13.5"-13.75"). On my dog, this makes the coat 2"-2.5" too short. If I try to attach the leg straps, they pull forward uncomfortably on her. With or without them, the coat stops too far forward on her back and fails to keep the end of her back dry. This coat has substantial padding in the chest compared to other Petrageous coats and this also tends to pull the coat forward, making it effectively a bit shorter (certainly, if your dog has a lot of fur on the chest area, expect the coat to pull forward). Customer service was very generous and shipped me a size L at no charge, instructing me to donate whatever didn't fit, though the size chart seemed to indicate that this likely would be way too large on her. In the girth, the excess is a bit much, but the coat does seem to lie more comfortably on her (less constricting and more natural), BUT the length of about 18" is too long for her, so the coat hangs off the end of her body much too far, and I don't think she could go potty comfortably. Note, though, that this coat is supposed to fit a dog with a back length of 18"-21", and, in reality, it will run too short on any dog that is longer than 18". The manufacturer should aim the dimensions either at the maximum or at the midpoint of each given size's range, not at the shortest end of that range. The coat seems accurate for the girth and weight ranges but very skimpy in length, at least across these 2 sizes. If you read the reviews previously posted by other owners of small/medium-sized dogs (this includes a fairly wide group: cocker spaniels, beagles, some terriers, etc.), it becomes clear that the manufacturer needs to introduce a size halfway between the size M and the size L. I had the same problem with the Petrageous Dakota coat last year: the M was a little bit skimpy (but passable because it didn't have the extra padding and ran about 1" longer in the length than the Kodiak); the L was too large (long). The recommended maximum weight range for the M in all Petrageous coats is 35 lbs, but the M is quite fitted on my 24 lb dog, so the M's are running small. The maximum weight range for the L is 65 lbs, and many reviewers who purchased it for a pit bull or a basset hound seem very pleased (and a good fit is seen in their photos). Given that the size L is for a dog TWICE the weight of the size M, it seems that the manufacturer has left a large number of pet owners without a valid size; there should be a "middle-ground" size offered for dogs weighing 30-40 lbs and measuring about 18"-19" in length and about 24" in girth. I also noted in other reviews that many owners needed a size in between the S and the M and had to return both. It's a shame that there aren't more sizes offered for small and medium dogs, as this is a very nice coat and priced fairly even at full price (it's a total bargain when on sale). In the end, I guess I'll be using the skimpy size M if my dog doesn't find it too uncomfortable, but I won't be able to use the leg straps, and the base of her back will not stay warm and dry. I like the waterproof fabric in the other areas.

This coat is the best coat we have ever ordered, in below zero weather when feeling their backs they are just as warm as they were before going out. We also have the Taos coat and there is no comparison. The size chart is way off I ordered extra large going by the chart. I could have gotten the large and they would have fit perfect. We have a lab which weighs 100 lb and a malinois and he weighs 80 lb but is very long.

I have 2 pit bulls. Last week I bought my puppy the red plaid coat. She loves it and so do I!!! It is the easiest coat to put on and take off. She also wears it inside when it’s really cold! I am going to buy another one for my other pit bull. The coat stays on and is very secure with the Velcro straps. I highly recommend this coat and give it 5 stars! It was a great price too!

Way too big

When ordering this, go by weight, not measurements. I ordered by measurement, even though the weight was WAY over what my dog weighs. This thing is like a blanket with a belt on him. By the measurement chart, an XXL fits him. He's 29 1/2 inches long, girth is 31 1/2, but he only weighs 60 pounds. A large probably would have fit fine. I have a LOT of altering to do. Other than that, it seems like a good coat. I like how you don't have to put their legs through any holes to get it on. My old guy appreciates that for sure.

Great product for the money!

I am thrilled with these coats for the boys! Besides the "can't beat it price", they are well made, fit great and easy to put on and take off. I wasn't sure how well Edgar's (Basset Hound) would fit as they are tough to size due to their long body, however, his fits perfectly in an L. Marley is wearing an XL & while it seems big in the length, the L is too short. Once the rear leg straps are slid on, it pulls the back of the coat down and it fits fine. The windchills here are -25 and these coats are perfect!!
