it’s really good…once it’s filtered. If you’re planning on cycling a tank it won’t be an issue, but if you want to put it right in with the fish, you probably won’t be able to see them for awhile. My goldfish LOVED this. it’s perfect for their “scavenging” and my betta likes to lay in it, due to its soft feel.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Holes in bag

One bag came with holes and sand was all over the stuff in the box, the other bag was fine though, no holes like the first bag of sand. Great delivery person though, i believe its the manufacturers fault. Sand is great for hamsters.

Yes, I recommend this product.

AMMONIA OF THE CHARTS SINCE ADDING to tank!

aqua lady1

In a 10 gallon tank with two small cichlids I decided to add this as a substrate because the bare bottom just didn't look right. A few days later, my two cichlids died. I ran a water parameters check and my ammonia was off the charts. I changed the water, cleaned the filter replacing the media and used API Quick Start and after a week put two NEW cichlids in. Next day they are dead. AGAIN a huge ammonia spike. REPEAT, clean the tank, change the water, clean the filter and this time I checked BEFORE adding fish and the AMMONIA is off the charts yet again! My water out of the faucet doesn't run this high in ammonia!!!! It MUST BE THE SAND!

No, I do not recommend this product.

MY FAVORITE

Ive been using this sand for years and its my favorite. Its very easy to clean, and since the grains are so fine, it greatly reduces the detritus worm population. Practically leaves zero room for them so I have not dealt with them since I started using this sand. I also love the natural, look, and the sand is very soft and fine. You can tell by touching it, that the quality is good. One thing I will say is to avoid sand if you have African Dwarf Frogs, as they will eat the sand due to their poor vision.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Purchased to use for upgrading my axoltl into a larger tank and it works great! Rinsed thoroughly before putting into tank- very minimal cloudiness that dissipated quickly. Looks great and my axoltl loves walking on it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Does it come in black and if it does where can it be ordered from? The sand that is, I already use the substrate but would like to cap it with black sand.

is this sand safe for pufferfish

Hey! Can this be used for red claw crabs?

      1. Don't see why not

Wondering what size grains these are? also What is the name of the color

      1. Light Grey in color , like fine gravel a bit coarser than play sand . Really pretty nice stuff . I mixed fine black gravel with it for a geophagus tank . Came out with a realistic looking substrate they liked .

Does this sand bring up the water PH level in tank?

      1. No, it is neutral. If you need to raise the pH you can use substrate with crushed coral or a little baking soda which is calcium does the same thing.

Is it for fresh water fish tank?

      1. This particular variety of sand is suitable for use in either fresh or salt water aquariums. Have it in at least four of my freshwater tanks.

How do you not have the specific color labeled in the description or specifications section? Which color name is this one?

      1. Color is listed as tan under the 'Attributes' tab.

How many bags would I need for a 30 gallon tank?

      1. Depends on 2 things the size of the bag and how deep you want your sand to be.

      Is this for freshwater too?

      1. Except for those varieties designated "Live" which are formulated specifically for marine applications, CaribSea Sand is definitely suitable and safe for freshwater set-ups.

Is this sand safe for an Axolotl? A baby-juvenile to be more specific?

      1. Axolotls should not have sand until they are over 3" in case they ingest it while eating. Once they're larger they can pass it with no issues if ingested.
