The secret to successfully keeping African Cichlids begins with Eco Complete African Cichlid Substrates. These mineralogically complete substrates contain aragonite to maintain the high pH African Cichlids need. Eco Complete Cichlid Substrates add calcium, magnesium, carbonate and more to recreate the African Rift Lake environment. Naturally buffers aquarium water to combat downward pH drift in African Cichlid tanks without the constant use of additives. Eco Complete African Cichlid Substrates are packed with live, water-purifying bacteria to jumpstart the cycling process. Questions
how many rocks does it come with
- Ohhh I'd say roughly about 47,632,183 "rocks" are included in each bag.
Helpful?
Do you rinse this product or put it directly in the tank
- Although the bag says that it is not necessary to rinse it, I personally always do it. Comes with a water clarifier that works really good though.

Will this work well with Peacock Cichlids ?
- Yes, will work very well.

Can you use this substrate for South American cichlids ?
- I keep 6 geophagus with it and they do great, they sift through it but not as much as they would if the grains were smaller, they were larger than what I expected.

Does anyone know what millimete the grains are?
- Larger than sand by quite a bit...I got it for geophagus to be able to sift through and only the largest are able to actually get mouthfuls and sift like geo's should. Its great substrate but its quite a bit larger than sand.

Is it black from coloring like most black sands or is it natural black sand ?
Is the Zack black substrate sand or is it more like gravel?
- It is definitely more like a thick grained sand than it is like a gravel. I was surprised when i got it, it's not NEARLY as chunky as the pictures make it look. It also has a lot more white than the pictures, which I was happy about. Exactly what I was looking for in a dark substrate for my mixed cichlid tank.
Helpful?
Can this be used for a beta tank?
- No, this sand will raise the pH of the water. bettas need to be in softer water - a pH of 6.5-7.5. If you want a sand substrate, it should be inert.
