Clears up

I’ve read other reviews online about how cloudy it can be. I used about 2/3 of a bag into my existing tank. Yes it was cloudy for a while, but it cleared up probably within three hours. Real fine sand. But makes the tank look good.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Absolutely horrible fine sand, put this in my 20 gallon and it got blown around absolutely everywhere!! Clouded my tank for days, do not use this on a tank with a filter.

I had ocean direct oolite and it came with plastic and glass shards. Huge chuncks of trash in it. This is better.

This is great product to add with crushed coral and other media to keep your tank bottom from looking so boring, but keeping it alive

Hate It.

I hate this product. It is not sand, it is gravel that looks like charcoal. When I purchased it years ago, it was beautiful black SAND. I think the company is trying to give customers a cheap product for the same price. If you want black SAND, do not purchase this product. It is just cheap, gray, crushed rocks.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I just set back up my saltwater tank ,an i can see that this sand makes the tank very cloudy what i can do to make all the dusk go away out of this sand , i trun off my water waver pump cause i can see a sand strom in the tank what could i do

  1. Easiest way to have the sand settle is use the little bags that the sand has with it and turn on your filter, I was able to clear the water within 2 days, just be sure once the water is clear to clean your filter out.

is this good for hermit crabs

  1. yes ,it would be perfect for hermit crabs

Wanting to set up a shelly tank with multis, they need a ph of 8 to 9. I know this is intended for saltwater use but will it be safe for my African cichlids?

  1. It actually is because cichlids are really more brackish water than freshwater fish especially larger species like Africans. This type (marine) substrate works fine for brackish water tanks with higher (7.8+) pH as well as saltwater. Also my research has found this type of sand to be good substrate for hermit crabs, in case anyone is interested.

can the CaribSea Arag-Alive Bahamas Oolite Aquarium Sand be used in a freshwater aquarium. if so, will the ph still be at 8.0?

  1. you can use it for a high ph freshwater tank like an african cichlid tank.
