This looked like a fun challenge for my umbrella cockatoo but he managed to pull one drawer completely out and tore the screw out of another. It didn’t last 5 minutes before I had to take it out of his cage.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good Concept -- Maybe Too Easy?

I bought this for my baby CAG. Looks like it will withstand parrot use. The problem is, it came with two broken pieces, such that one drawer fell out and the thing wouldn't mount to the cage. Petco was quick to respond to my request for a replacement, but apparently it comes from a third-party vendor, so I'm still waiting on the new one.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Nice to find a replacement

Had one of these before. Birdie eventually broke it over the years. Was time for a replacement.

Easy, But Fun

My green cheek opens this easily, but she plays with it even after she's emptied it. I like this one because the drawers come out all the way and she can reach into it comfortably. It's sturdy and easy to clean.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Poorly designed

I have had the Four Big Drawers foraging toy for a couple of months. Tsali, my African Grey loves checking out the goodies and toys I put inside. I HATE the toy - the mounting bracket is plastic and the screw stripoed the very first time I put it in Tsali's cage. I now use a small length of chain and a quick link to attach it to the cage. It is also difficult to clean. The ONLY reason I still use it is because Tsali loves it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Very well constructed

This product is very well constructed, and the drawers do not pull out completely. This is all good. You can lead a horse to water... Buddy has shown no interest in this toy. Two drawers have an almond, one some pine nuts, the other a peanut, all clearly visible. Buddy is a very old Mexican Red Headed Amazon rescue. Even partially opening drawers does not create interest. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not very well made or durable at all

I was so excited to find this online but I was pretty disappointed when it arrived. It's made of cheap hard plastic, and the mount is too so it can easily crack or strip when tightening it to the cage. A rubber grommet of some sort would sure have helped. To clean the drawers, the whole thing has to be removed from the cage and each drawer must be removed separately by removing a long screw, and then screwed back on and reinstalled onto the side of the cage. With the cheap plastic mount it has, I don't see this lasting very long. On the plus side, my African Gray loves it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Even My Conure Loves It

IWriteNovels

Although the toy is clearly meant for much larger birds my gold-capped conure has learned to open the drawers to get a special treat now and then. (I *do* leave the drawers partially opened, because my bird is so small.) As a bird owner, I do all I can to encourage the natural foraging instinct in my conure. I would, without reservation, recommend this toy for large birds; I would tentatively recommend it for medium or smaller birds.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Can this be used for a cockatiel, or is it too big?

  1. I believe it is too big and scary and useless to a cockatiel. Their brains are much simpler in that they don't really spend a lot of time playing with toys. They love comfort, handling and bonding, a few toys that are appropriately sized for them including a mirror, and basically love to feel like they belong. Even if they are shy, they love to see their flock.
