I purchased this for my conure (although my two cockatiels will likely use it). First off, the instructions do not match what is inside. Some of the stuff it tells you to assemble is already assembled. Bonus. But some stuff it doesn't even tell you accurate information for that part. For instance, the "see-saw" portion is supposed to have two wooden side parts that you put together and then keep together with a hex screw. There are no two parts for that. There's one part that the "see-saw" part fits into and you put one screw through it, instead of two parts that join that part together. It's whatever. Not sure if it's supposed to move up-and-down easier if it had those two parts, but with enough pressure it does move (though my birds probably won't ever use that amount of pressure). I consider this neutral. Second, some of the wooden pieces were already chipped or being peeled away. I kind of smoothed them out by breaking them off and making sure it wasn't a danger to the birds. After doing that, I'm pretty neutral on that side of things as the birds will likely tear it apart at some point anyway. Third, the chains for the swing were messed up so it was quite lopsided. One chain almost looked two long as even though it was knotted a bit, it was still longer. Rescrewing the bottom parts of the chain into the perch part (this is all pre-assembled) resolved this. Fairly neutral. Fourth, the laminated base is just a slightly thicker version of the type of cardboard material you nail into the back of cheap shelves or book cases (to help you not push your books/things all the way through). I suspect this won't hold up to cleaning over time, but only the future will tell. It is a bird product, so you'd think that'd be important. I have an older stand that has survived years, but uses a much thicker type of laminated wood at the bottom (more akin to plywood that those cheap types of book cases etc. would be made out of instead of the flimsy part that adds to the back). If this part holds up, I'd probably bump my review up to a 3. Ultimately, with the price, it wasn't worth sending it back and for what it costs, if it lasts a few years, it'll suffice. If you ignore the instructions and just look at it, it's easy to put together. But because of my doubts, I don't think I would recommend it overall. Either way, I didn't think the cons justified sending it back or contacting customer service. Just beware of them.

Cheaply made and difficult to assemble

I had read the reviews posted here that pointed out how poorly this play stand was constructed, but I took a chance and bought it anyway (I hadn't been able to find any other stands that would work for my bird). The reviews were entirely correct. The wood is very cheap and milled improperly; hardly any of the screw holes line up. I was still able to assemble it; it just doesn't look quite like the picture! Several of the wood pieces had splintered, rough edges that had to be sanded. Also, in the picture, the perch between the bowls is rounded, which is the primary reason I chose this model. But the product now ships with a squared perch instead (like the other pieces in the stand kit). I have an older conure with arthritis, and she is unable to stand on something square like that, so I have it rigged with some rope perches and it will suffice. I didn't use some of the included toys; they're kind of silly (a teeter-totter?!) and they just serve to clutter up the stand. I have long rope perches winding around the play stand and my bird can get around pretty well on it. I do like the bowls. They're a little tough to screw on to the holding bolts, but they're the perfect size for her, and she can stand on them comfortably. Often, with play stands of this size, the bowls are too small. I wouldn't be able to build a stand from scratch, so this was my next best option. With the added rope perches, I was able to make it work. I just wish it had been made better and was easier to assemble.

Too big for a small bird_parakeet

I'm returning this for 3 reasons: 1. It's way too big for a small bird. I bought it for my parakeet and picked the small one but it's huge. 2. The cups are screwed in and cannot be removed to be washed. Therefore, you can't really use them for food, which is a huge flaw. 3. The ladder perches and swing perch is plastic and very slippery. My bird was not able to grip without slipping. I expected more after paying so much money for this.

My Cockatiels are still getting used to this. To attract them to it, I hung a few toys on it.....This is a lot less expensive than some of the other products available....It's not great, but for the price it's reasonably well made.

Yes, I recommend this product.

This is advertised as SMALL but is too big for my cocketiel.

The 14 inch size is perfect for small birds but the 20 inch is too big. The pieces are too big for the feet eg. climbing the ladder. I highly recommend the smaller Acrobird. Good for climbing and chewing etc.
