I got a dosage of this from my LFS and was afraid to try it. Finally the cyanogen was so bad I felt I had no choice. I treated and cleaned/picked at the cyanogen for 2 days. Today did the 205 water change and I am real happy with the results. It didn’t kill anything in my tank. It should be noted to add a large air stone under one of the wave makers to hyper oxygenate the water. If you don’t do this you could possibly loose some livestock.

Yes, I recommend this product.

algae grower

I've been struggling to get rid of blue-green algae for months and could eradicate it. I read about chemiclean and decided to give it a try. I dosed once but did not see much change on the algae level in a day or so. Then I treated again with a second dose. It appeared its effect is mild and it takes some time to kick in. In less than a week all the blue-green algae disappeared from my tank. I recently did a 50% water change to remove the added chemicals and planning on more water changes soon. Also for the record, my plants remained unaffected by the chemical. They actually started to grow faster after the algae competitor disappeared. I had no fish in the tank so I can't report of effect on fish.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The product does seem to work at first, got rid of most of the bluegreen algae after about 3 days but then it came back after a week or so. It is kind of pricey and you get very little of it especially if you have to use it several times in a larger aquarium or fish pond.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 13 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Is this product safe for fresh or brackish water, aquatic turtles (Diamondback Terrapins) & semi-aquatic turtles, (red eared sliders)?

    Can this remove brown algae?

    1. No. This is for Green Algae Removal. For brown algae, buy nerite snails and otocinclus catfish. They love to eat brown algae.

Is this safe for freshwater snails

    1. Thank you for your question. The ChemiClean is safe for all invertebrates, including snails.

    dosage amounts

    1. Thank you for your question. The dosage instructions are on the more information tab.

    Do I have enough flow?

    1. Thank you for your question. The aquarium oxygen levels MUST be increased using heavy aeration or large air stones. The two powerheads will not offer enough aeration.

Is this OK with fresh water plants?

    1. Thank you for your question. Per the manufacturer this product is safe for the use of plants if used as directed.

Can you use chemiclean in a seahorse tank?

    1. Thank you for your question. Per the manufacturer, yes, Chemiclean is perfectly fine to use with Seahorses and all other fish and inverts. They emphasize to follow the directions exactly, especially adding extra aeration. They said, that this is a step many hobbyists tend to skip, but is very important.

    What about lights ?

    1. mrpergo, Thank you for your question. You do not need to turn off your lights while using the ChemiClean, as your corals do need the light in order to survive. However, if you are having algae problems in your aquarium it may be caused by having your lights on to long in your aquarium. We only recommend keeping your lights on 8-10 hours a day and the longer that you have the lights on the more algae problems you can have in the future. Algae not only feeds from the exes nutrients in your aquarium it also feeds from the light.

    more air

    1. Put in an airstone while treating.

Will Chemiclean get rid of my red algae problem??

    1. Yes this product worked but you must carefully measure the exact dosage and add a lot of water circulation or other oxygenation as instructed, or your livestock can perish. First time I used this product I add a little circulation and did not measure very carefully and outcome was almost all dead livestocks. Second time I had 5 power heads running in a 90 gallon tank and measured dosage very carefully, and after 4 days all red algae disappeared overnight.
