Considering who this is for, this is a cute little dress up item! I ordered it hoping it would fit my rabbit, but it is much too small. It might fit a guinea pig, but keep in mind there aren't holes for their ears. It's very lightweight, so won't feel too heavy on your critter's head. It's fastened by velcro that is well stitched in. For just some casual dress-up it's great!
