Get your algae under control with the Blue Mystery Snail. They are a great addition to help keep uneaten food and algae at a minimum in community and planted aquariums. This peaceful snail will not bother other snails, fish or plants. Like many other snails the Blue Mystery Snail does not have a very long-life span and they will have to be replaced every year or so. Some defining characteristics of this snail is that they have gill and lung function so they can survive out of water, and an operculum. The operculum is a piece of shell that fits over the opening where the snails body extrudes from the shell. The snail can withdraw into its shell and protect itself by closing this "trapdoor" and sealing itself off from the outside world. This snail mostly relies of on detritus and algae as their food source, but if that becomes scarce be sure to supplement their diet with sinking pellets.

ACCLIMATION: Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. For new aquariums, adding new fish slowly helps to properly develop the nitrogen cycle, which creates a safe environment for your aquatic pets. A bacteria booster may also help develop a new aquarium for your new fish. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried, and frozen food, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller, unfiltered aquariums.
