Disappointed
Been looking for one of these forever and found one on sale at my local Petco, however, it is too long for my 5.5 gallon tank that I also purchased at Petco some time ago.

actual size of the hinged glass piece is 15.5 by 6
Actual size of the hinged glass piece is 15.5x6 inches. It would be nice if this was listed on the box or in the description. It comes with a back piece you can cut to fit the width, cut out space for your accessories, etc. If you have a 16" aquarium obviously the top has to be a little smaller to fit inside and sit on the rim edges, but 15.5 was too wide for my aquarium, by a quarter inch or so, I am seeing this same thing in a couple other reviews. I don't know what brand this aquarium is, was given to me by a friend who upgraded their aquarium. I was disappointed because I had previously got the 10 gallon aqueon hinged lid and it fit my Marina 10 gallon aquarium and I love it. I don't like the black plastic lids with the built in lights that come with most kits. That setup means when you open the lid to do something in the tank you are losing your light. The hinged glass lid fixes this, unfortunately this one was just too wide for my tank. Post the actual size of your product, not the size of the aquarium.

Good for parts/project not ready to use
Bought today, drove home and was 1/4 inch to big length wise for my aquarium. Ended up having to use a glass cutter to make glass panes right size to fit. Better than being to short but more of a project than expected

Overall great item
This top is very nice quality and fits perfectly on my aqueon 5.5 gallon tank. The only problem is that it does make it hard to have a filter or other accessory that hangs on the rim of my tank.

Glass fits perfectly but the vynl is too wide
The glass fits perfectly on all sides, however, the vynl strip is about a centimeter top wide and doesn't sit flat on the lip of my aquarium. Also the vynl is INCREDIBLY hard to cut. I just took it off because it was in the way of my internal filter, which will lead to evaporation unfortunately. But at least the majority of the water is covered now 🤷♀️ ugh

3 inches too long
these lids are advertized as 16 inches and designed to fit the 5.5 gallon aquarium, but they actually measure 19 inches and don’t at all fit the aquarium. really frustrating because this was the only glass lid i could find that was supposed to fit my aquarium

Glass isn't cut to the right dimensions or angle
I'm really disappointed because I am either going to have to buy a different lid or try to cut the glass to size myself. The glass doesn't seem to be cut square and it's about 1/8-1/4" too long on one side, so it doesn't seat properly on the rim. I would actually really like the lid if it fit properly.

Does the width measurement include the plastic strip or glass only? My tank is 7in wide.
- It includes the plastic. If you have the 5 g tank with the black plastic frame, this lid will fit perfectly.

Would this fit a 5 gallon glass rectangle tank?
- I have this top on a 5 gallon glass rectangle tank and it fits side to side. Keep in mind that the glass is shorter front to back of tank, which gives room for a hang on back filter. Mine also came with a piece of long plastic which can be (very carefully) slid through the edge of the glass in the event you want to cover the entire top of the tank. I have an internal filter and this is how I use this glass top.

I noticed the back can be cut for wires/heaters. What tool would I need to do this? Reviewers said a traditional scissor wouldn't work
- Use a dremmel with a standard cutting disk. You can make a cutting pattern with a bit of cardboard first, cover the top of the flange with some clear packing tape, mark with a black marker, cut, fit, adjust, remove tape (if you are striving to get a tight fit cut.). Then you can use a polishing attachment on the dremmel to clean up the edges.
