To Small For A 48" x 18" Tank

JoeMumm

I bought this on 02-25-25, and it doesn't fit a 48" x 18" tank. The glass is decently thick, and the folding hinge looks to be good quality (it would most likely last a while), but this doesn't fit a 48" x 18" tank. I have a 90-gallon Marineland tank that was made in 2017. the glass barely touches the sides ( 1/16" on either side). The glass needs to be about 6/8" longer so you can have 3/8" on both sides resting on the plastic lip. If I planned never to open the glass lid, I might be able to make it work, but most people will need to open the lid. If you have the glass pushed up to the front of the tank, the plastic extender (that you can cut) needs to be about 3/8" longer so it can reach the back lip. The actual dimensions of the glass (with the plastic backing on it) is 22 1/8" long and 16 3/8" wide.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good shipping, irregular product.

Shipping was great, item in perfect shape, but these lids aren't inexpensive, however, they are highly irregular in fit. This particular one is a good 1/4 inch shy of filling the opening. Next time I order, it'll be too big to fit, or maybe even perfect. Its a complete crapshoot which I find inexcusable, since its straight cuts to a known size/template.

Great lids I did have to do some DIY for my tank

I saw a review that was dead on. This 2-piece canopy set fits specifically an Aqueon 75 Gallon tank. I forget what brand mine is but is has a center brace on top so I hoped this would fit. It was just barely too short I mean less than an inch and it would have worked, What I did was took a piece of plastic filler strip from the lid I was replacing and put that on the side frame where the lid is supposed to rest. It works. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is I would have liked the lid to be maybe 1/4 inch longer or provide a plastic piece for the side like for the back. Overall I still recommend this lid is actually a bit thicker than my old one just make sure you know what brand of aquarium you have, or you might have to get creative to make it work.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great lid, but please read my write-up

Great lid and love the ability to cut out the plastic backstraps to fit my specific hardware. I do have to warn buyers though, this is meant for the Aqueon tanks. Aqueon has a thick trim and a center top support that is a couple inches wide so this is a 2 piece lid and not a full 48" so the reviews stating it is a horrible lid are a bit misleading. True, this won't fit an open 48" top, but is meant for the Aqueon center braced tanks, not universal.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have an Aqueon 60 gallon tank. Will this fit? How does it fit with a filter sitting on top? You have to cut the glass to get it to fit with the filter on?

  1. For more information about this product, please contact our knowledgeable team at 1-888-255-4527. They’re available to assist you!

Is the center hinge clear Plastic or is it the old black hinge?

  1. Hi there! The center hinge on our Aqueon Versa Top is black.

how many glass tops come in the 48x18 1 or 2

  1. This comes with two. It works with an aquarium that has a brace in the middle.

Is there a way to purchase the plastic back strip separately? I need a new one to accommodate a new filter.

  1. I don't know if petco has them but you can find them online.

Will this fit a 55 gallon aqueon tank

  1. No, a 55 requires a 48" x 12" cover, i. e. two 24" x 12" covers.

Is this the lid for the 60 gallon breeder tank?

  1. It should be. The 75 and the 60B have the same 48" x 18" footprint, so it should fit both.

I have a 36 gallon Top Fin aquarium with a beveled or curved front. I'm trying to find a canopy/lid for this tank. It has a metal bar that the light currently sits on, but I have no idea what kind of top I need. Help please!

  1. The Aqueon tops do not fit Top Fin aquariums, and for a bowfront, you will need to find a Top Fin top that fits your aquarium exactly.

Is there an easy way or trick to installing the vinyl strip? On other Aqueon lids, I've cut my hands, chipped a corner of the lid, or just said screw it and set on top of the back of the lids.

  1. I start with the end corner of the plastic against the corner edge of the glass away from the end of the glass lid corner. Hold the plastic at an angle and rotate the plastic on the the glass edge. If it refuse to go I then rock it back and forth until it goes on. I prefer this method, although you can use the round shank of a standard size Phillips screwdriver to open up the end corner of the plastic I bit but this can lead to a bent up edge that snags cleaning cloths or you skin if you happen to reach past it. Thinking about it now, you could warm the plastic with a blow dryer to make it a bit more pliable but be careful of hot plastic and fingers.

We have a 75g with the glass center brace. The lid is 48" left to right. We need new plastic piece. Can't find it as 48", any ideas?

  1. This is the lid that I purchased for my 75 gallon. It should work well with yours.

Where do you get the plastic panel that clips onto the back glass when you've changed your mind where the filter goes?

  1. Hi there! These can be ordered through your local retailer if they do not stock it already.
