Two tanks nearly failed separately

Caution

I have had two Aqueon tanks fail due to poor construction. One leaked after a routine water change. The other nearly disassembled itself after the center brace failed. Both instances nearly caused tremendous water damage to my house. Stay away from Aqueon at all costs. I do not trust this company to make safe products. It is not worth the hassle of potentially flooding your home with hundreds of gallons of water. I have pictures but this website’s link to post pictures is conveniently broken.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Exploding Junk Tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOBO

These tanks are junk! Center brace cracked in about a year. I did not know it was to hold tank glass from bowing out! It was so flimsy, thin plastic I just thought it was for supporting my two covers! Tank then exploded at night and I lost a thousand dollars worth of fish! All over a 125 dollar tank that turned out to be absolute garbage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Stay Away! 55 Aqueon Glass Tank

TheSkeptic

Purchased on sale from Petco 9-14-2023 I have been keeping freshwater and marine aquariums for 50 years I never had a tank failure but this tank didnt even last 2 years. 55 GALLONS. I should have known better buying this tank. Thin glass and thin plastic frame made me wonder about my selection. However I thought well, this is Aqueon! Known for quality right? WRONG. Also I was buying it in Petco, I mean, I like and trust Petco. They wouldnt sell a bad product would they? Well ... I am about about to go to the store now and show these photos. Also YES, I have my receipt. Last evening, something looked funny about the tank, I look at it and the center brace for the top frame fractured completely!. I swear the glass seemed to be bowing out 1/2 inch to 3/4's (see photos) Instantly concerned, after th shock of seeing this my wife and I lowered the water level relieving the stress to the point that the tank stopped bowing. We were so concerned about a complete failure in our new home with very expensive flooring. Never again Aqueon and I expect some type of compensation on the purchase price because I will never trust your product again. (just look at the photos if the site lets me post them)

No, I do not recommend this product.

2nd Aqueon 55 gallon tank product failure

CMCT

This is my second 55-gallon tank to fail. The first, the silicone failed, causing a slow leak, which damaged my hardwood floor before I noticed this was happening. I thought the water was evaporating. I purchased another one about a year ago, and this one, the bar that runs across the top in the middle, the plastic is failing, causing the glass to bow out. I now have a clamp on it to prevent the glass from breaking from the pressure of the water. When I went to Petco, they said it has a 90-day warranty. This is obviously a manufacturing defect, and I have seen another post with the same problem. This is very frustrating as I now have to purchase another tank, NOT Aqueon, and transfer my fish before the whole tank fails and dumps 55 gallons of water on my floor.

No, I do not recommend this product.

What are the inside dimensions of this tank?

  1. Hello! The inside dimensions of the Aqueon Standard Glass Aquarium 55G are approximately 47.5" L x 19.5" H x12" W

Does Aqueon sell any hinged glass lids fit for the 55-gallon tank? I have some jumpy fish and I want to make sure nothing happens.

  1. I actually just called customer service for Aqueon and asked this very question as well. They informed me the route is in fact to buy two 24 in glass lids.

My top cover around my 55 Gallon fish tank cracked can I replace it

What are the measurements for the tank?

    1. The dimensions for this tank are 48.25" x 12.75" x 21".

Where the heck can you find a lid Dose any one have the tank and know one I can use I habe a turtle if you need to know

    1. You need a tank topper vs a lid. Your turtle needs to be able to exit the water and dry off completely to bask. They sell them pre-made, however i built my own because they don't fit the larger tanks in my experience.

I was looking to buy this tank and no hood at all whatsoever. So, I went to the store and ask them why is it online with the photo with the hood and you don't get one when you buy it? he told me see it says no light. so is the light the hood?

    1. No hood included.

What is the glass thickness of the 55 ga tank?

    1. Hi there! The glass thickness is 5/16".

How much does the tank weigh?

    1. 625 lbs

Are these the actual measurements of the tank?

    1. Hi! Thanks for reaching out. These are the actual measurements of the tank. If you have more questions, please call our friendly Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527.

Is this the right size for a male and female mud turtle, they only are 4 inches. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi! We appreciate you writing to us. You can use a 55g tank as mud turtles do not get very large, however a 75g tank would be much better. If you would like more information, please call our friendly Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527.
