Great tank for my hamster! It's the perfect depth to fill up with plenty of bedding and fits everything he needs. Bought this during a 50% off sale for $65 and it's great for that price. Make sure to get an appropriate lid!

I had a 40 gallon tank and I have bought two of these. Came home from a 12 and 1/2 hour shift and almost lost my koi The water was all over my brand new carpet in my basement everything was leaking with no cracks in multiple spots and I almost lost all my koi.. let alone the mess it made and could not find a leak through the aquarium silicone. This is the second one that has leaked or cracked all of a sudden.

No, I do not recommend this product.

DO NOT BUY THIS!

This is a terrible product. I’ve had it less than a year and it just randomly started leaking in several different spots today. I’ve never moved it or damaged it in any way. When I originally bought this I saw a few reviews about leaky tanks and ignored that. Don’t ignore this one unless you want new floors and you enjoy bad surprises. I trust the Rubbermaid bin my fish are now residing in more than this trash.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great Tank! Get appropriate stand ;)

I bought this tank over 4 years ago. Originally for 2 acolotls....had it sit empty for a year and now been going strong with fish for about 7 months. I was reading the comments and there are some that say bad or cracked or whatnot...while I am sure any tank can come with a bad seal from factory. I can guarantee not everyone keeps their tank on an appropriate stand. Some people don't know pressure points of tanks and so forth. I full heartedly believe this to be an excellent tank but then again I purchased the correct stand for it amd have never had an issue ♡

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought my 40 breeder almost 2 years ago for a saltwater reef tank. Has about 60lb of live rock and thousands in coral and I have never had a issue with leaking. In fact this tank has been drained and moved 2x and still no issues. I'm about to buy 2 more for coral frag tanks to grow out coral for a 125 gallon.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Is this tank good for leopard geckos?

    1. Many leopard gecko care resources recommend that leopard geckos should be permanently housed in a 10 or 20 gallon enclosure to prevent them from getting “overwhelmed” in a larger space, or stating that more room is simply “not necessary.” However, reptiles will utilize every inch of space that we make available to them, and larger, enriched enclosures encourage our pets to exercise more, which in turn keeps them healthier and helps them live longer. As the reptile hobby comes to understand our beloved reptiles better, we are realizing that they need more room than we have been giving them in the past. For these reasons, ReptiFiles recommends that adult leopard geckos be housed in no smaller than a 36″ x 18″ x 18″ enclosure with at least 4.5 sq ft of floor space. Floor space is the most important consideration here, as leos are terrestrial (ground-dwelling) lizards. That being said, they will often happily climb if appropriate vertical space and climbing materials are provided. Most leopard gecko keepers prefer to house their geckos in glass aquariums or terrariums, which are attractive and can help create a more varied temperature gradient. However, if you have trouble with your temperatures, wood and PVC enclosures insulate very well and are quite popular. ReptiFiles recommends the following commercially-available enclosures: MINIMUM Repti Zoo Easy Folding 50 Gallon Glass Reptile Terrarium BETTER Custom Reptile Habitats Select 3 Kages 36″x24″x18″ Premium PVC Reptile Enclosure, with “2 square screens” top option Toad Ranch Luxury Reptile Habitats BC36 3’x2’x2′ BEST Custom Reptile Habitats Evolution 4 Reptile Enclosure Kages 4’x2’x2′ Premium PVC Reptile Enclosure, with “2 square screens” top option Zen Habitats 4’x2’x2′ Meridian Reptile Enclosure Toad Ranch Luxury Reptile Habitats BC48 4’x2’x2′ The sky’s the limit! Larger is always better as long as the enclosure is laid out properly. Can Leopard Geckos Be Housed Together? Generally speaking, no. We do not recommend cohabitation for pet leopard geckos, and especially not if this is your first pet reptile. Multiple geckos housed together can result in dropped tails, severe bite wounds, and even broken bones. This is particularly the case for male geckos, but can also happen within groups of females. And of course, males and females should not be housed together unless you want babies. Pro tip: You don’t want babies. However, leopard geckos do live in colonies in the wild, and they will often share resting areas or hides with other leos. However, this sharing of space is only during the day when they are asleep. During the night when they are most active, they scatter to forage so they don’t have to compete for food. Some experts speculate that housing leopard geckos together, such as a male with two females or a small group of females, is a form of enrichment for this species. When leopard geckos are housed together, they are generally more active and demonstrate more social behaviors. The conclusion? If you choose to house leopard geckos together, give them a larger enclosure so each can have its own territory. Also keep in mind that, much like humans, not all leopard geckos can get along with each other, so be prepared to separate them immediately into individual enclosures if they start to fight. When in doubt, just house your leopard gecko by itself and it will be fine.

Does it come with a lid specifically screen

    1. I don't believe it does unless it's some kind of combo or starter kit which I don't think is offered for a 40B.

Can I put a bearded dragon in this tank??

    1. Hi, Bearded Dragons should really be in a 120 gallon at minimum. I don't want to be rude or anything but 40 gallons is way too small for an adult beardie.

What is the material of the frame on the top & bottom? Steel? Aluminum? Plastic?

    1. Hi there! The frames on our aquariums are made from black polystyrene plastic.

I want to know what is going on with Aqueon’s quality control and why customers with defective tanks have to ship their tanks back to Aqueon??? I don’t get it!  Every Aqueon tank I have purchased in the past have been good and now the ratings plummeted.

    1. We apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced with Aqueon tanks. We take quality control seriously and strive to provide the best products to our customers. We understand your frustration and would like to address your concerns directly. If you could please give us a call at 1-888-255-4527, we would be more than happy to assist you further and gather more information about your situation.

Why are so many of the 40 gallon breeder tanks leaking? Has this problem been resolved?

    1. Many breeder tanks are meant for terrarium use for reptiles. Make sure when you get one it is meant for water and fish because terrarium use aquariums aren't water tight and will leak.

Is this tank suitable for axolotls?

    1. Hi there! Yes, our Aqueon 40 Gallon Breeder is suitable for axolotls. The minimum recommended tank size for a mature axolotl is around 20 gallons, and for juveniles, it should be no less than 10 gallons.
