Description

Aqueon PURE Betta Beads contain beneficial bacteria that help maintain a healthy environment in unfiltered aquariums. The beneficial bacteria aids in maintaining a balanced environment while the enzymes help breakdown organic sludge for better water clarity. These soft biodegradable balls create a fun enrichment activity for bettas while also encouraging their natural foraging behavior. Watch your betta play in the beads like a fun ball pit as they dive in and out. Replace the beads monthly and remove uneaten food for optimal results. If betta beads shrink prematurely, this is a quick indicator that the water hardness is not optimal for your betta. We recommend changing the water with soft (deionized or specially filtered) betta waters.

  • - Provides live beneficial bacteria and enzymes to maintain clear water
  • - Great environmental enrichment activity for Bettas! Watch as they play in and out of the soft gravel like a fun ball pit
  • - Soft biodegradable gravel encourages the natural foraging behavior of bettas for mental stimulation
  • - Aids in maintaining a healthy aquarium by breaking down organic sludge for a healthy balanced environment
  • - For use in unfiltered betta habitats. Add 1 pouch of betta beads per 1 gallon of water
  • - For best results replace betta beads once a month (add 1 pouch per 1 gallon of water) and perform a 25% water change every 2 weeks
  • - If betta beads shrink prematurely, this is a quick indicator that the water hardness is not optimal for your betta - we recommend changing the water with soft (deionized or specially filtered) betta waters

Poor Quality

I bought these this morning for my new betta tank. Shortly after putting them in the tank, it seemed like the betta fish popped a bunch of them. By the end of the day, almost all of them were gone. I used spring water then used betta water conditioner, so my water should not be hard. I am very disappointed, as I was expecting them to last a least a couple of weeks. I will not be buying these again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

THIS KILLED MY BETTA! DO NOT BUY!

IF YOU LOVE YOUR BETTA, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! I bought these beads based on good reviews I saw from other people. I thought they'd be good enrichment for my betta, who was extremely healthy and happy. A few days after adding the beads, he started doing really poorly. Couldn't swim up, super lethargic, basically just laid on the bottom of the tank on his side, barely able to move. I dumped the water immediately and cleaned everything else in the tank. After a few days of intensive cycling and treating the water, my betta improved a little and I was able to get him to eat blood worms from a dropper. However, he still could barely swim up and it was obvious his swim bladder had been impacted since he wasn't able to reach neutral buoyancy. I kept feeding him the blood worms, hoping for some more improvement, but he ended up passing yesterday. My boy would still be alive and happy if I had never bought this product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Both of my bettas love these! I've been using them for over a year and they have never shrunk to a small size in a day, I actually reuse them. Finn and Ryder love hiding diving and playing dead in them.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have been buying these for 2 months now. My betta is in love and they helped him soooo much! I saved him from a store and he had bad fin rot. These things work magic.

They shrink

I have had the beads in my betta tank for less the 12 hours and they have shrunk much like an orbie would if left out of water. When I first put these beads in the tank you could not see them now you can clearly see them siting on the gravel.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Useless

BettaBoss

These beads are completely useless. The beads look cool in the bag, but once in the tank, they melt down into tiny little dots the size of Betta fish food pellets within 24 hours. They don't 'provide fun' for the fish. Every one of my Betta's ignored them, and now they just look like tiny bits of plastic trash on the bottom of the tank. They are 100% useless and a big waste of money. If you want to add beneficial bacteria to a tank, buy it in liquid bottle form and you will get much more value for your buck.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

One of the beads broke in the tank and my betta ate a small piece. Is it going to be okay? What should I do?

  1. I don’t think it will be a problem but I’m only a customer not a fish expert. My 3 bettas are one year old now. I’ve used the beads with them not eating them. Maybe your buddy is a little hungrier. So watch him as you put in a pellet of food.

Are these beads ok to add to A guppy aquarium or are they Only for Betta tanks?

  1. Hey there! Yes, this will work in a guppy aquarium.

What happens if a fish eats them? Should I remove the beads if it becomes a habit?

  1. The hydrated beads are too large for an average betta to ingest. Betta Beads should last approximately 30 days before needing to be replaced. However, if you notice the beads have reduced significantly in size or your fish is able to ingest them – this is an indication that the water quality may not be optimal for your betta. Hard water is the main cause for Betta Beads shrinking prematurely, we recommend replacing the betta beads immediately and using a softer water source (such as betta water).
