Garbage. Don't buy

It doesn't work. It worked for a couple days, but never got the water to its supposed 78 degrees. Water never got above 75. Now, the light is not even coming on even though the water temp is 71. Our home thermostat is set to 71, so the water is the temp of our house. I bought this Saturday, and it's only Monday!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Bought this a few days ago, turns on for a few seconds then goes off. The “78 degree preset” is apparently code for “heats only five degrees above the temperature of the room” according to the customer service department. Which isn’t even what it’s capable of doing. I went through the checklist on the instructions of possible reasons it isn’t working and none seem to be the culprit. Customer service laughed at me and told me if my room was in the 60s, the heater wouldn’t do anything. And he was right.

No, I do not recommend this product.

They work as advertised. Why would you buy this?

I really dont get why you would waste money on a heater you cant adjust but here you go. These things never fail and will last forever. It works and heats the water to 78F, needs ample water flow to work properly.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Doesn't heat a 2.5 gal tank above 76F

Seniorbettamom

Had this heater for a week. It heats my 2.5 gal tank only to 76F. The filter keeps the water circulating, and the room temp is 70 or more. So why isnt the tank warmer? This heater is rated for 5 to 10 gals, there's no way if this is how it performs in a smaller tank. First Aqueon product I have ever been dissatisfied with.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Dead Out of the Box

andr3w1sh

Installed in my tank yesterday and after letting it sit in the water more than 30 min, plugged it in. No red light. Water temp measured at 73 (slightly cooler than the ambient room temp of 75). Continued to monitor throughout the day, red light never came on. Left it in the tank overnight, checked this morning and the water temp has fallen to 70. There appears to be condensation in the red light window. Pretty sure this thing is dead out of the box. Will be returning this. I’ve seen reviews that these preset heaters are problematic.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Waste of money

Angelina123

I bought this product yesterday and can’t get it to work. I’ve looked online and read the instructions just in case. The red light will be on for maybe a minute right when I plug it in but won’t turn back on. Such a waste of $25 and a wasted trip across town.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Too Weak, almost killed my fish!

Bixbi32

I bought this because it was the best price heater for the wattage I was looking for and it almost killed my fish! Instead of keeping my 6 gallon tank at 78 degrees F, instead it kept my tank at 75 degrees or cooler and my Betta fish needs a temp between 78 and 84. The only reason I realized something was wrong was he started hiding more and moving less. Thankfully I was able to get my money back. I trust the Aqueon brand but an adjustable heater is the way to go.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I have this in a 10 gallon tank. I’m upgrading to the Aqueon 20 gallon long tank. Would this work?

  1. Hello! The Aqueon Preset Heater 50W is compatible with tanks up tp 20 gallons!

Can you control the heat

  1. No it is preset to around 80 degreea.

it says the heater can be fully submerged but is it safe for the cord to be in the water ?

  1. yes.

Will this heater fit in the fluval spec v filter compartment?

  1. Yes, I have had mine in the slot where the return pump is, It has been there over 1 year and I've had no problems ever. :)

Is my 50w heater only reading 76.5 degrees because I keep my ambient house temp around 68 degrees? Thanks!

  1. Could have a little to do with it. More likely your heater may not be big enough for your aquarium. You didn't say how big your tank is, so its hard to say.

Help! I just bought this at petco, followed instructions and I noticed white dust coming from the top?? I took it out and rinsed it off and scooped out funk from top of the water.

  1. Sounds like you got a defective one. I'd suggest exchanging it.

The light on the heater only shows up for a few seconds what should I do to get it to Work?

  1. The light is only on when the heater is actively heating. If the water is the correct temperature, the heater won’t come on. It only comes on when the water needs to be warmed. Depending on the temperature you’re keep your house, it might not need to come on at all.

The aquarium that I bought has a lid on it and I'm struggling to get the heater cord to sit properly while the lid remains closed. Any advice?

  1. Maybe make the hole for the cord bigger or use suction cups? Try taking a picture into the store and ask them there.

If Aqueon is aware that "heaters can be tricky" as they responded to a review, then why do they not provide proper troubleshooting and "tricks" in the manual? I've done everything according to the manual PLUS common sense. What's the deal, aqueon?

  1. Hi there, we apologize that you're having some trouble with our heaters. We're always here to help! Please feel welcome to give us a call at 1-888-255-4527 so we can learn more information.

Would this heater work with a 1.4 gallon betta tank?

  1. I've used it in my smaller tanks and it works perfect.
