What a joke

DudecalledCarl

What a joke. I ordered one and it failed. So I called customer service and they sent me a second one. Unfortunately the second one failed too. Customer service was actually pretty good although I do not know I do not understand how they automatically sent me a new one, very few questions to ask. It’s like they anticipated them to fail and replace them automatically.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Overheated :’(

ASpegner

I have had this in my 29 gal for a few years. Heating kept it at about 68 degrees constant which was fine for my tank. My big heart break is this thing just malfunctioned this week and fried my tank up to 104F I lost my whole tank i have had for over 6 years. To stay I am devastated is an understatement. I would advise if you keep this longer than a year, just replace it. It happened over night. Was not obstructed or anything.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Works, but doesn’t heat up to specs

I bought this for my 40 gallon. It says it’s rated for up to 55. It won’t heat my tank past 70 degrees though. If you’re going to buy one of these, I suggest getting the next level higher wattage.

Hi there! There are three potential issues that may be causing issues for you maintaining a good heat level in your aquarium. First, we encourage you to make sure that there is good circulation within your aquarium. Without this, the heater is only warming up the water around it and not the whole aquarium. Second, if the heater is not submerged to at least the minimum water line on the heater while plugged in, it will trip the internal overheat safety fuse (this cannot be reset). Last, if your aquarium is near a draft from a window, or the room it is in is exceptionally cold, the heater may not be able to raise the water temperature as far above the ambient room temperature as what you need. This can also occur when using without a lid (when heat is not held in by lid). If none of these three fixes work for you, please contact the Aqueon Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527 for further assistance. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/stratos-logos/logos/aqueon.png" alt="aqueon" title="aqueon" style="display: block !important; margin-top: 2em !important; border: 1px solid #ccc !important; padding: 2px !important; background-color: white !important;" /> <!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

Never worked from day1

BXRS4Me

Purchased this product never worked from day 1. Retuned it and the fish tank needed a smaller tank due to it was taking up to much room it waa my fault due to i should have went verified with actual tank instead of website limited info. I contacted Petco and was told it was ok to return items took to store and they would only give me store credit to use in 20mins prior to close on a Sunday. Due to really nothing at the store was in the quality i expect for my new Rescue i will be returning items today. I am very disappointed in Petco i always purchased my precious Maggie's food from them for many years and will no longer be supporting the chain for any items related to my Dog. Petco you need to really look into who advises you on K9 items to stock, horrible selections, quality is not acceptable. your staff upon return of the tank never taken out of box. Treatment by your staff was out of line like i stole the tank 40 gallon it was bigger than me. My personal experience as dealing with the customers without them you will not have a job or a company in the future and sorry but my dog comes 1st and i do not compromise on over priced items.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This is the worst heater and I expect more from a 30.00 heater. My 10 gallon betta fish tank doesn't get close to 78 degrees. I felt my betta's water with my hand and it was ice cols. Unacceptable.

Heats to 77*F and maintains that

starguy

Cycles off and on again to regulate temperature at 77*F in a large tank. I find it helps to have a powerhead or submersible pump next to it. This will distribute warmer water away from the heater.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased this heater today and have in a half full 29 gallon tank. The heater has been in the tank for 4 hours. The water temp has gone from 68 to 74 so far. How long should it take to get it to 78?

  1. To be honest, it might never get there. I ran 100 watt versions of these heaters in three 10 gallon tanks. One of the tanks finally made it to 78, but the other two never got higher than 76. I stopped buying those heaters because they weren't reliable.

Can the Aqueon Preset Heaters be adjusted to raise and maintain the temperature setting to 80 degrees???

  1. No its preset to 78

What type of heater should I get for a 100 gallon fish tank and of course how many

  1. Several smaller heaters are better than one large one - in case one breaks, the others will compensate. Type depends on how the tank is set up, and fresh or salt water. If you are using external filtration, and/or a separate sump, consider heating the water in-line or in the sump. If you want submersible in-tank heaters, start with 4 200-watt pre-set heaters, let them cycle for a few days, monitoring the temp. If it swings up and down, add 2 more heaters.

What would be the perfect temperature watt for a 10 gallon?

  1. It depends on how warm/cold the room is, and the fish you are keeping - you can get by with 25 watts IF the room is always above 67 degrees and you have fish with "normal" tolerance for temperature fluctuation. And, it's important to have TWO heaters, even in a small tank - heaters will fail eventually, and you won't know it until the fish start showing stress. For my 10 gallon tanks, I use two 50-watt heaters, one at one end near the bottom under the filter outflow (I use a hang-on-tank Aquaclear) and one vertical at the other end of the tank. 100 watts for 10 gallons is too much, but only one comes on at a time - and the tank is in a garage that often gets down below 50 degrees at night, so the heater does a lot of work keeping the tank warm.

Can I use this heater for my 40 gallon turtle tank? I have a heater that isn't keeping the tank at the preset temperature and I want to change.

  1. Our sister company Zilla Products actually offers an exclusive heater for turtle tanks! You can contact their Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527 for more information.

I have a 29 gallon, and I was considering sizing up to this heater just to be certain the tank maintains temperature. Would that be overkill?

  1. We recommend a 100 watt heater. That is suitable for aquariums up to 30 gallons, while the 150 watt heater is suitable for aquariums up to 55 gallons.

I have a 55 gal Tank. What is this product up to?

  1. This will be perfect for your tank! The 150w is suitable for aquariums up to 55 gallons, while the 200w is suitable for aquariums up to 75 gallons.
