I used the products one time and everything was fine. The second time I went to use it, it smelled like rotten eggs, just horrible. What’s even more disappointing is this product isn’t cheap, especially for its size.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I think there's something wrong

Vichyssoise

So I bought this 6 weeks ago 8 weeks ago and used it for a problem on my initial tank setup for a big upgrade. No problem I went to set up an old tank a 20 tall when my guppy hobby became prolific. That tank set up needed some help with ammonia, 6 weeks later I went to grow the product open it up and it smelled like rotten eggs. I don't know what's going on with the chemicals, but I feel like if I put this in my fish tank all the fish are going to die. That's an issue considering how much this product costs. You know fish keeping is not a cheap hobby, so I expect to pay a decent amount for my products but if I have to throw more than half of it away and I've only gotten to use it once, I'm going to be a little upset about the initial output because more than half of that money Just got thrown in the trash

No, I do not recommend this product.

Explanation for rotten egg smell? I just opened a new bottle that seemed to possibly have a tiny leak, but the worse part was the strong smell of rotten eggs after opening it. Is this normal for this chemical?

  1. It is normal to have somewhat of a rotten egg smell.

Can I add this to the aquarium while it is cycling or does that affect the process?

  1. Hey there! This Ammonia Neutralizer is intended to be used after the tank has went through the Nitrate Cycle.

Am I supposed to get lower ammonia levels after using this?

  1. Hi there! It will help break down and control ammonia, but you still need to do proper water changes and cut back on the feeding.

Should this be used instead of your water conditioner when I do water changes or should I continue to use water conditioner and use this if there is an ammonia spike?

  1. Aqueon Ammonia Neutralizer can be used along with your normal water conditioner to reduce ammonia build before you have a spike. It neutralizes chlorine in tap water and reduces ammonia levels that rise naturally in a fish tank from.the accumulation of fish waste and the breakdown of uneaten food.

my bottle leaked all over my counter.. smell will not come out? what should i do? is it dangerous to inhale in large quantities?

  1. Please contact our Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527.

Can this be used along with Microbe-Lift Nite Out II - Starter bacteria that removes ammonia and nitrate?

  1. We recommend that you use one or the other, not both.

Can you put this when the fish are in the water or do I have to take them out.. I need help it my first time.

  1. Yes. This is intended to be used while the fish are in the tank.

Need an freshwater ammonia test that is saliclate based, not nessler reagents, Anyone know where I can find this?

  1. Yes, ammonia neutralizers convert ammonia (NH3) into a less toxic compound ammonium (NH4) and many of the ammonia test kits measure for both NH3 & NH4, which would not help you if you are using an ammonia neutralizer. Hagen has one that differentiates between the two. I'd personally be cautious using any of the test strips as they are not as accurate as the liquid test kits.

How often can I put Aqueon Ammonia Neutralizer, every day?, every week? My ammonia and nitrate, nitrite levels are high. Can I put this product daily?

  1. It can be done once a day but don’t do it for an extended period of time. If the ammonia level remains high for a long period of time then there is something wrong with the aquarium. Usually it is a matter of the tank having too many fish in it too soon or just too many period, or regular over-feeding.

can this be use on fish, that are for human consumption ?

  1. Yes, it is just for adding CO2 to water supply for plants in freshwater. CO2 is already in there, just not enough for proper growth of plants in freshwater and corals in salt water.
