This test kit covers most parameters you want to check to start up and maintain a reef tank. I would suggest, definitely, an ammonia test and nitrite test from API as well. This is the best price around at Petco. Only rated four stars because I believe nitrite and ammonia should have come with this kit.

Hard to read test results. Test tubes are garbage. Within a week I broke 3, thin crappy glass, and the lids are not easy to put on or take off. The nicest thing about it so the tote it comes in with cutouts for the bottles and test tubes.
