Your online or in store purchase must be between $35 and $1,000.

Klarna currently accepts all major debit and credit cards (i.e., Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, Discover). Please note, prepaid cards are not accepted.

When you create a Digital card in the Klarna app, you’ll enter the dollar amount that you plan to spend. Klarna will authorize your payment method for the 4 interest-free payments. Add the Digital card to your virtual wallet on your phone and complete the purchase at checkout. A Digital card can be used for multiple purchases as long as it’s within 24 hours of the initial card creation. To make another purchase after the 24-hour window, just create a new card and continue shopping at Petco.

You will only be billed for what you end up using with your Petco purchase online or in-store.

When you pay with Klarna online or in-store, your purchase will be automatically split into 4 payments. You will be charged every 2 weeks beginning at the time your order is confirmed (usually the shipping date). No bills are sent - you can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy your purchase. There are no fees when you follow the payment schedule. Please review product terms for applicable fees.

Payments are collected every other week from the debit or credit card you provide at the time of purchase. All scheduled payments are communicated to you by email and you can review your purchases by logging in at https://app.klarna.com/login.

When you choose 4 interest-free installments, Klarna may perform a soft credit check. This type of check will not impact your credit score or show up as a hard inquiry on your credit report.

Klarna can be used to pay for Petco purchases in-store and online. All Petco services including Pharmacy, Dog Grooming, Dog Training, in-store Vetco Vaccination Clinics, and Petco’s owned veterinary hospitals also accept Klarna. Klarna cannot be used on Repeat Delivery, Vital Care, Petco Insurance, Gift Cards or PupBox subscriptions.

If you don’t see Klarna at checkout, that means the items in your cart aren’t Klarna-eligible. Make sure your purchase total is between $35 and $1,000. If you have gift cards in your cart, your order won’t be eligible for purchase with Klarna. Try removing those items or choosing another form of payment. If you’ve selected Repeat Delivery, your purchase will not be eligible.

Your refund will be processed within 14 days. As soon as the store has registered your return, or cancellation, you will receive your refund. The refund process mirrors your payment plan - each of your payments is refunded separately. You may therefore receive the refunds on different days. Log in to view the status of your return or cancellation.

Pay in 4

Refunds are processed in different ways, depending on the status of your payment schedule, how much you have paid and if the store has processed a full or partial refund.

  • Full refund
    Once the refund is registered against your order, any remaining payments will be cancelled and the already paid amount will be refunded to the original payment method.
  • Partial refund
    If the partial refund is greater than the remaining balance of your order, the refund amount will be deducted from the outstanding balance and the difference will be credited to the original payment method.
    If the partial refund is less than the remaining balance of your order, the amount will be deducted from the outstanding balance and spread evenly across the remaining payments. You can view any updates to your payment plan in the app.

Pay in 30 days

You'll receive an email with updated payment information and payment updates in the app.

Financing

If the total amount owed is greater than the refund, the refund will be deducted from the total balance of your financing account.

If the total amount owed is less than the refund, the refund will be available as a positive balance in your Klarna account, allowing you to purchase again using your account at any participating online stores. Contact Customer Service to complete a refund form should you instead want the refund credited to your bank account.

Still waiting for your refund?

Depending on your financial institution, it can take up to 14 days for the funds to show in your account. To check the status of your refund, first ensure the store updated your payment plan accordingly, then check the refund against your original payment method.

If after 14 days you have not received a refund, or your original form of payment is associated with a now closed bank account or credit card, chat our Customer Service. If your payment plan has not yet been adjusted by the store, please contact the store directly to confirm your return or order cancellation.

Should the store's return policy only allow refunds in the form of store credit, you are still responsible for your payments to Klarna associated with that purchase. According to the store's T&Cs express shipping fees are not refundable.

To cancel your order, follow these steps:

  1. Contact the store
    Contact the store directly to cancel your order. Always follow the store's cancellation policy. As the payment provider, we can't cancel your order.
  2. Wait for the store's confirmation
    We will cancel your payment accordingly and refund any paid amount when the store confirms the cancellation.
  3. Check for updates in the Klarna app
    You can check the status of your order anytime under Purchases in the Klarna app.
  4. Receive refund
    Refund processing times vary and can take up to 14 days, depending on your financial institution. If 14 days have passed since the store confirmed your cancellation and you're still missing your refund, please chat with our Customer Service with your cancellation confirmation available.

As soon as you've reported your return your invoice is paused. This allows time for the return to be registered by the store and your invoice to be updated accordingly. You will receive an email with updated payment information or you can always log in to the app for up-to-date payment details.

Contact the store directly if your return is not registered correctly, as only they can adjust your remaining balance. Keep in mind that Klarna manages your payment while the store is responsible for all other aspects concerning your order.

Submit the returns information at any time in the app - follow the prompts to enter the tracking details & the date you made the return. If after 21 days your return is not registered correctly by the store we can always support you if you've provided the required returns information.

And always be sure to keep copies of your correspondence or proof of your attempts to contact the store.

What happens next?

After reviewing the information provided, we'll notify you of the decision as soon as the investigation gets closed.

  • If the investigation is closed in your favor, we'll update your payment plan accordingly. In case you have paid too much we will refund any overpayments.
  • If we close the investigation in the store's favor, your original payments will still apply, but the payment schedule will be updated accordingly. This means that any outstanding payments will be due.

Good to know: The status of the investigation can be found on the details page of your purchase. If you've resolved the issue with the store after reporting your problem, you can easily update us by logging in.

If it appears that you are still being charged, even though the order is canceled, it is most likely due to the store not releasing the authorization hold.

What is an authorization hold?

  • An authorization hold is an amount placed on your card to ensure enough funds are available for your first payment.
  • The hold is released by the store when the order is canceled.
  • Depending on your financial institution, the release will be reflected in your bank account between 1 to 7 business days.

What should I do?

If you are still being charged, or the authorization hold has not been released after a couple of days, we recommend chatting with our Customer Service with your cancelation confirmation on hand.
