Don’t buy!

All cages made by this brand are horrible! If you buy these for any pet you’re an animal abuser but for hamsters specifically they’re burrowing animals and need a minimum of 6 inches of compressed unscented paper or aspen bedding which this cage doesn’t allow + they need a minimum of 750 inches of flat floor space + the wheel that it comes with is way to small and causes back injuries + the food that it comes with is unhealthy and trash they need at least 40 ingredients in their food with no fillers and this food is mainly fillers I recommend a homemade food mix or one off Etsy because there is no store bought food that is safe or good for hamsters + the tubes are unsafe and can cause suffocation, limb injuries, back injuries, and much more. The kaytee brand should be ashamed of themselves for making such cruel cages and items for these poor animals

Heartbroken

Heartbreaking moment for my daughter to come home to today. She runs out of her room crying and says Oreo is stuck and not moving. Her mouse is named Oreo, and sadly her tail got stuck in the side and passed away. My heart is so broken for her, she had just fed them before she went to school. The poor mouse couldn’t get food and water :(. Just warning that this can happen. My husband had to come in and unsnap the cage to even free her mouse so we could bury her.

Almost Great For A Mouse

This is a cute setup. Instead of wood chips, it looks like it uses toilet paper. The water was leaking at first. I haven't checked to see if it still is because the mouse climbed out in a matter of seconds. He was very small though and very determined. I would say for a baby mouse, the size of the cage is okay if you get attachments. The wires need to be reinforced. One of mine came broken but I am meaning you would want to add wire or something to keep them in It looks like the metal is supposed to clip into the plastic but it wouldn't. It just sat there on top of it. The wheel turns well. Overall, if I had a pet that wanted to stay in, this would be nice, especially with attachments. It isn't really made to hold the frantic mice you catch in the house that are wild and want to be wild. Clip the metal and plastic, change the metal into squares instead of long wires and it would work a lot better. Get a better quality water bottle too.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Is this a good size for two female mice

  1. Hi there! We recommend our Kaytee Crittertrail 2-Level Habitat for two mice!

Will this be good for a first-time dwarf hamster owner?

  1. Yes

What is the space between this cage's bars?

  1. Approx. 1/2"!

Can this cage fit a Dwarf Hamster? I read some reviews and was wondering if I does. We were planing to get one.

  1. No. On it's own this would not be okay for a dwarf hamster. 360 square inches for dwarves. Minimum. At 168 square inches, it doesn't cut it at all. If you were to attach it to a bin cage it would be fine (that's what I did for my hamster) or you could just save money by making a bin cage! These are large, easy to make, escape-proof, and CHEAP! The price range for the three of mine was 25$-45$ to make, including bin and wire. Skip the money and stress for your hamster and make a bin cage!

Why is it so small? also attaching another cage won't meet the bare minimum.

  1. Thank you for your feedback. We'd be more than happy to discuss this habitat as well as other options that may be suitable for you. Please feel welcome to contact us directly at 1-800-529-8331.

Is this cage big enough for a field mouse?

  1. It depends. Did you capture your field mouse? Because if you did, set it free. Please. If it is hurt, yes this would work. But once it gets well, please set it free. If it is a mouse that you found as a baby and cared for, then yes, this should work.

Is this cage good for a Syrian hamster?

  1. No this is a terrible cage. Especially for Syrians. Try over a 40-gallon tank, your hamster will be a lot happier in an aquarium.

This is way, WAY too small. How many inches of floor space is there anyway?

  1. This is 168 square in. That is 282 in under the bare min

Is this big enough for a normal sized hamster? Also are the colors this bright in real life? Because they kinda bug me but this is the best deal I’ve seen

  1. This cage is not a good cage for a “normal sized hamster”. A quick lesson: there are five species of domesticated hamster. Syrian (sometimes called golden, teddy bear, black bear, panda bear hamster, etc.), Chinese, Russian Campbells (often just called RCD or Campbells), Winter White (though you’d never find a purebred WW or RCD hamster from pet smart, they get their hamsters from pet mills), and Robo (roborovskii is their scientific name so they are called robos). This cage is not suitable for any of them. The size, so much smaller than the BARE minimum, makes it basically animal cruelty. The flimsiness... your hamster would be so stressed and bored in this flimsy cage that they would escape immediately. There have been scientific studies on hamsters to se how much space they need, you know. They proved that some female Syrian hamsters (what you’re probably referring to as normal hamsters) are not happy in cages over 1,000 square inches. Don’t keep any animal in this plastic prison. And don’t pretend that connecting them makes it any less horrid. This cage is tiny and I wouldn’t even use it for a travel cage. This is NOT a good deal on a good cage. This is a bad deal on a terrible cage. Get your hamster a bin cage: if you already have the bin they’re pretty much free. Get your hamster a detolf: though they’re $60, they are like a large aquarium but cheaper (though they are too small for Syrians with a height of 14 inches and floor space of 930 square inches). Get your hamster an ikea pax: they can cost from $50 to $150 and the SMALLEST size is 1,500 square inches. Please, don’t place your hamster in this plastic torture chamber. Don’t.  For anyone who was wondering, hamsters are basically colorblind so they won’t be bothered by the colors, but you will be. That is, if you choose to sentence your beloved pet to live out its life in a flimsy plastic torture chamber.

Is this big enough for two gerbils?

  1. NO PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! THIS CAGE IS NEGLECT FOR EVEN ONE GERBAL! GET A 200 quart BIN instead, THEY ARE ABOUt 30 DOLLARS! FIND A YOUTUBE VIDEO ON HOW TO MAKE A BIN CAGE!!!!!!!
