Clipping your dog’s nails on a regular basis isn’t just a good grooming habit. It can actually help prevent painful splits or breaks that can make walking uncomfortable. Some pet parents are unsure about trimming or clipping their pet’s nails, but you can help make this an easy and stress-free process for you and your pet with practice and patience. Here are some steps to follow to incorporate into your nail care routine:
Some dogs and pet parents prefer to use the option of a dog nail grinder to trim their dog’s nails. A grinder can sometimes be a gentler way to keep a dog’s nails short. Here are a few steps to follow:
Give your best friend plenty of treats and praise when you finish the process. And browse all your options for nail grooming equipment with our selection of dog nail care tools.
Filing can be an excellent way to smooth your dog’s nails after clipping, but you can also just use the file to shorten your dog’s nails without clippers. This method is the most time-consuming, but it may also be the best option for dogs who aren’t comfortable with clipping or grinding. Nail filing can also be a good method to help puppies get comfortable with the nail trimming process. Here are a few steps to get started with the nail filing process:
Take breaks if your dog becomes nervous or agitated, and give your dog treats and chews along with praise when you’re done.
The best electric dog nail file for you and your pup will depend on what features you prefer and which product your dog will best tolerate. Some pet parents appreciate dog nail grinders with safety guards, while others don’t need them. You’ll also want to find a grinder that is designed for your dog’s size. Some grinders are extra quiet, which can be useful if your pet has a low sound tolerance.
You can also find some of the best dog grooming supplies to add to your tool kit online or at your neighborhood Petco Pet Care Center.

How do you cut cat nails ?
I have been reading your tip on how to get your dog to have their claws cut without any problems. Part of the advice is to let your dog get used to the buzzing of the clippers on the dogs paw. I've never seen any clippers that buzz when cutting the claws as the only ones that buzz are for cutting the fur. As far as I know the nail cutting is done with something like scissors that has a part you can use to make sure you don't cut them too close to the quick of the claws.
How do you cut guinea pig nails
can i use dog nail clippers to cut my guinea pigs nails there over grown
Have a spunky new rescue chihuahua mix and she is skittish. So much so she will resist any efforts to trim her nails. We have 4 dogs so I have trimmed nails hundreds of times--but with Ricki Ricardo, no luck. I sit on the floor and flip them over and cradle them between my legs. My wife distracts them with peanut butter on a spoon. Besides going to a groomer or vet, any ideas? I thought maybe a groomer table might help. Are there premium nail cutters of higher quality than store bought?
My dog will not let anyone cut his nails. He is getting older and they seem to be growing faster than they used to. He gets very aggressive… nothing will work. Dremels, different kinds of clippers. What can I do. It seems it’s getting harder for him to jump and run they are getting so long.
I have a reactive dog. She can be selective with people, the times I have taken her to the vet she’s been ok with the handlers there. But she’s goes crazy when she sees other dogs. Ive always done her grooming myself, but she doesn’t let me do her nails. I want to take her to a groomer to get them done but I’m also considering just taking her to a vet for nail trims because I think it would be easier perhaps. which choice seems like the best route ?
My JRT Kiki's nails need constant clipping. They grow like wildfire which means regular visits to the groomers (i am too afraid). She has black nails which makes life harder. Groomer suggested i take her to vet to get them clipped and vet can then cauterize them if they bleed? Any suggestions welcome?
Can I trim my puppies nails or am I best letting a vet do it
Which meds would be most effective to calm a dog down enough to clip nails? He had a horrible experience over a year ago at a vets and I have been working with him to hold his paws but whenever he sees the clippers or dremel he gets up and runs away. My other dog also does not allow his nails trimmed and will growl. They both need trimmed and general anesthesia is not an option. Advice? He's been to groomers and vets and no one can trim them
My dog's nails always make noise when walking. None of the nails touch the ground when she is just standing. Only when she walks. She walks on pavement a lot, so I know it prevents from making her nails grow too long. Even so, she is 2 years old and I have cut her nails only 3 times. Her nails seem a little long to me. But when I look, I can always see the quick. So I can't ever cut anything off. See attached photos. Should I use a dremel and slowly try making her quick recede? Should I ignore?
Just got a Chihuahua 4 years old male. He has the Longest nails ever how do I know how far to cut his nails? Or is it better to leave it to the professionals? Really don't trust taking him to groomers what do you recommend?
