Can human collagen help my senior chihuahua with arthritis pain?

Usually this can improved with joint supplements like Cosequin and the food Science Diet j/d. Pain control medications such as NSAIDs and gabapentin can be used on an as needed basis to help with pain. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment of this. If they agree that this is likely, they can go ahead and prescribe this to help her. Just like with human medicine, there is much to be studied when it comes to CBD treatment in dogs, so the answer is actually unknown. The product you have shown is not considered a CBD supplement as it just contains hemp seeds, which do not have the CBD's like marijuana flowers do. I see that this product also has omega 3/6 fatty acids which may be helpful. However, I wouldn't expect this product to be very helpful. It appears safe though, so you can give it and see if you notice any difference. If you finish the bottle and haven't noticed any benefit, then I wouldn't buy anymore. While supplements may be a helpful adjunct, the best products for arthritis are the ones your veterinarian can prescribe. If they Eschele is having a lot of difficulties with arthritis, then it's best to have your vet evaluate her and prescribe the necessary treatment if this hasn't been done already. Studies generally conclude that the human version of arthritis supplements are not able to be absorbed by dogs. Instead look for a supplement for dogs. The two I recommend our Dasuquan and Duralactin. Starting him on an additional omega-3 fatty acid for dogs will also help with arthritis. Unfortunately no, collagen supplements will not help, you are correct. Most cases of it are treated with cough suppressants, bronchodilators, corticosteroids (to control inflammation), and/or antibiotics. Keeping Ghost at a healthy weight is very important as well. If medical management does not show improvement in two weeks, or the dog's quality of life is severely affected, surgery is recommended. I hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about Coco. The Novox should help some with his arthritis as it is an NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) such as us using ibuprofen. If it isn't providing adequate pain control there are other options we can try in addition to the NSAID. These would include Glucosamine Chondroitin joint supplements such as Dasuquin, fatty acid supplements which can decrease inflammation in the body, injections that can aid in joint health (Adequan), and additional medications such as gabapentin, tramadol, and amantadine. If Poncho is lame in one of his legs, he could have an injury ranging from a problem with his toes to something in his shoulder (front leg) or his hips (hind leg). If this is a chronic issue, it is possible Poncho has some arthritis in his joints, which may benefit from a joint supplement. However, if Poncho has a soft tissue injury or something like a fracture or dislocation of any of his bones or joints, a supplement will not help. I recommend restricting Poncho's activity for 3-5 days and see if this helps his lameness. If he is no longer limping on the leg after this rest, this may have just been a soft tissue injury that needed time to heal. If his lameness does not improve or worsens over this time, I recommend having Poncho seen by a veterinarian. He/she can perform a full physical exam and orthopedic exam to localize his pain and determine the best course of treatment. As a reminder, NEVER give dogs pain medication that is intended for humans, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful!

Great question! I really like Dasuquin and Cosequin as joint supplements for dogs. I have found that in senior dogs with arthritis, Dasuquin is a great option because it contains ASU, which stands for Avocado & Soybean Unsaphonifiables. ASU is seen as considerably more effective in regards to repairing stiff, sore, and injured joints. For Oscar, I'd recommend Dasuquin. I hope this helps!
