This will not provide sufficient levels of UVB lighting. The window and tank glass will block a large majority of the sun's beneficial rays. A UVB light source must not be blocked by glass, plexiglass or fine mesh and should be about 12-16 inches from the surface of the basking area for maximum effect. Without UVB lighting, a turtle cannot properly synthesize adequate levels of Vitamin D3, which is necessary in the absorption and metabolism of calcium. The result will be metabolic bone disease, soft shell and/or stunted growth.

The ReptiSun 10.0 bulb by Zoo Med is widely recommended. It should not be obstructed by either glass or plexiglass or be more than 18 inches away from the basking area. If you can't get one just yet, natural unfiltered sunlight can be provided daily if you can do it safely and without risk of escape.

A small tank with one Betta will require minimal upkeep. Most small HOB (hang on back) filters will be sufficient. Tetra, Fluval and Aqueon make a wide range of acceptable filters. The tank should have a cover or hood as well as a light and a heater. Bettas do best between 78 F and 80 F. Feed 1-3 pellets once or twice daily. Change the filter as per manufacturer instructions. Rinse filter media with tank water, not tap water, to preserve beneficial bacterial populations. A partial water change, no more than 20-20% of total tank volume, may be necessary every 2 weeks to maintain water quality and stable chemistry. Use only aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Water conditioner brands include: AmQuel Plus, NovAqua, Prime, StressZyme and StressCoat. You don't need all of them. Follow the directions on the bottle. Allow the tank to cycle before adding a fish. This will allow beneficial bacterial populations to colonize the filter and substrate

Check water chemistry and filtration. Sunny may have developed a bacterial or fungal infection due to the switch in environment. Clean water is crucial to resolving infection. Perform regular partial water changes. Use only aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent further stress or shock. Maintain water temperature between 75 F and 72 F. Minor infection maybe resolved using plain aquarium salt (NOT table salt). Salt is a great general tonic. It reduces stress, improves gill function and aids in recovery. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water in a cup of tank water and gently pour it into the tank. Treat until symptoms resolve. When performing water changes, use just enough salt to treat the water being replaced, not the entire tank volume. If necessary, you can use a broad spectrum medication if symptoms persist. Look in the aquarium section of the local pet or fish store for products such as Kanaplex, Maracyn or Lifeguard by Tetra. Follow label
